German condominium ownership in one paragraph
A Wohnungseigentümergemeinschaft (WEG) is the legal form for German condominium ownership: every apartment owner is automatically a member of the association that owns the building's common areas. WEGs are governed by the German WEG-Gesetz and require an annual general meeting, an economic plan (Wirtschaftsplan), an annual statement (Jahresabrechnung) and a written resolution archive (Beschlusssammlung). Many WEGs in self-administration — from two-unit buildings to mid-sized communities, and occasionally larger ones with a committed board — choose to administer themselves rather than hiring a professional property manager.
